OH HELLO, ORBS

Another two illustrations I've been/am working on. It'd been a while since I'd drawn anything based solely around planetary-orb type things, so the one of the left reminded me how therapeutic that can be. I still like drawing circles.

ON AN OVERCAST THURSDAY

I don't know what it is about tree-filled skylines, but I like them right now. And there's a dragon for good measure.

11.9.12

MOTHSPIRATION

I was working on this crown-type thing one night. There was a moth hammering itself against the paper light shade. Not a huge one that resembled some form of flying rodent, but it was big enough to make a significant thudding sound. I haven't really drawn anything unrelated to this project for the past few months, but now I find myself wanting to draw symmetrical moths. Just wanted to make a note of that.

THE DRAGON MADE ME DO IT

I had planned on getting an early night last night, but failed due to dragon-drawing. Eh.

19.8.12

WRINKLES

I wasn't too sure how this character was going to turn out, but I think she ended up as one of my favourites to work on. It seems I like drawing wrinkles.

3.8.12

MOURNING DOVES

I finished one version of this, spent about two days looking at it, and then started again from scratch. Sometimes I think it's best to just give in and start over.

10.7.12

A TRANSFORMATION

I probably shouldn't really post this, but I don't suppose sneaking one final drawing in here will hurt. And now I'm off for a day of making coffee, sweeping, and getting rid of tea and coffee stains from cups.

8.7.12

YEP, THERE'S THE DRAGON

I'll sneak in a proper not-a-rubbish-snapshot-from-an-iPod scan of the finished drawing later, but for now I'm off to draw another bathroom related scene. I think it's the bubbles. Bubbles are circular, so, you know.. I really have no defence.

25.6.12

NOT QUITE A DRAGON

Not quite a dragon, but this will include the dragon, so kind of a dragon. This one is based around the Melusine myth, which I'd never heard of before, but since appearing in this book project it's cropped up in around three novels I've read. Strange.

23.6.12

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DRAGON

I've spent the morning (afternoon? I haven't had breakfast yet, so surely that means it's still morning?) trying to draw a 'beautiful'  and feminine dragon. They kept coming out rather ugly, but hopefully things are going in the right direction now.

9.5.12

TOY HORSES

This one is loosely based around this, except with a completely different head. Now I just need to work on a tiny Rapunzel in a tower..

19.4.12

SLIGHTLY SULKY CHILDREN

I've really enjoyed working on this one, despite the teapot frustration. Hopefully I'll get it finished today, then maybe spend the rest of the day drawing Philadelphia, or an abundance of cakes.

16.4.12

THE PROBLEM WITH TEAPOTS

I've been trying to find the right teapot for part of an illustration (the same one with the teacups. Strange, that, eh?). Not being able to find the 'right' teapot has been annoying me for days, but this morning I squeezed in a bit of pre-work drawing, and I think this might be it.

12.3.12

Sneaky in progress shots from the book project. I haven't quite got as far as I would've liked to at this point due to working, but I'm hoping I can get a good bit done this week.

26.1.12

CATS

Some rough mappings (and bad late night photos) of new stuff.

I was lucky to be asked to illustrate another book, so it should keep me quiet for some time.

13.1.12

These are just a few originals of the forty or so illustrations from the commission that kept me quiet for a large part of last year (more on that later), all ready to be sent off to the author now that I've finished a wee 'thank you' drawing.

I'm feeling quite organised today.

12.1.12

New spindly brushes! This means I can finally finish some inking...
